Since 2018, Pinyon Environmental has served as an on-call historic preservation advisor for the City of Black Hawk, supporting the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and Certified Local Government (CLG) program. Our historians assist with reviewing Certificates of Appropriateness, Certificates of Architectural Compatibility, and demolition requests, ensuring proposed alterations to historic properties align with local and national preservation standards.
Pinyon’s services include preservation planning, historic surveys, interior assessments, and support for updating the city’s Historic Preservation Ordinance and Residential and Commercial Design Guidelines. We work closely with the Office of Community Planning and Development and the City Attorney to ensure ordinance revisions align with municipal codes and existing guidelines. Additionally, Pinyon provides technical advisement, best practices recommendations, and risk assessments to the HPC, while also assisting with CLG Annual Report reviews for submission to History Colorado.
