CDOT Central 70 Project

Denver, Colorado

Since 2012, Pinyon Environmental has provided essential environmental services for the Central 70 project, a major 10-mile reconstruction of I-70 through central Denver. This Public-Private Partnership (P3) project includes removing an aging viaduct, lowering the interstate, adding express lanes, and creating a 4-acre cover park.

Pinyon supported the project from environmental planning through construction and operations, providing expertise in hazardous materials, historic preservation, air quality, and environmental compliance. Our team completed environmental investigations, NEPA documentation, hazardous materials assessments, and developed innovative materials management and beneficial reuse strategies to reduce regulatory risks and disposal costs.

Pinyon also led environmental compliance oversight during construction, including air quality monitoring, Section 106 historic mitigation, and landscape architecture reviews for the Cover Top Park. Through proactive coordination with CDOT, regulatory agencies, and community partners, Pinyon helped successfully manage environmental risks on one of Colorado’s largest and most complex transportation projects.
