The Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP) is a $2 billion water resource project that will construct two new reservoirs, Glade and Galeton Reservoirs, and approximately 80 miles of new pipelines to supply 15 Northern Front Range water providers with 40,000 acre-feet of new, reliable water supplies. NISP will also include five pump plants and multiple pipelines to deliver water to project participants, as well as for water exchanges with two local irrigation companies. Aside from much-needed water storage, NISP will incorporate an array of environmental and wildlife mitigation and enhancement measures and bring additional recreational opportunities to the region. The project, which is being implemented by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (Northern Water), has been decades in the making and has required extensive coordination between multiple entities at the local, state, and federal level to obtain the necessary permits.
Pinyon is currently providing Northern Water environmental services in support of the NISP, specifically for the proposed U.S. Highway 287 realignment, Glade Reservoir, and associated pipeline infrastructure. Pinyon has been tasked to conduct biological field studies and resource assessment as well as provide mitigation design plans. These studies are being conducted in accordance with the environmental commitments in the NISP Final Environmental Impact Statement and to support the Section 404 permit application. Pinyon staff are also available under an on-call services contract to provide Northern Water’s staff permitting and environmental services support on an as-needed basis.
