Pikes Peak Heights Project

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Pinyon Environmental provided comprehensive environmental services for the Pikes Peak Heights project, transforming a former construction and demolition (C&D) landfill into a site ready for residential development. Working alongside CTL Thompson and the PPH Team, Pinyon led multiple environmental investigations to evaluate debris volumes and identify strategies for safe, cost-effective site remediation.

Faced with nearly one million cubic yards of buried debris, the team pursued on-site management solutions and secured approval through Colorado’s Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCUP). This approach provided access to critical financing tools and regulatory clearance via a No Action Determination (NAD). Pinyon oversaw the excavation, sorting, and management of debris—recycling materials, disposing of unsuitable waste, and relocating clean fill to a designated debris area.

Completed in 2020, the project cleared the way for new workforce housing while delivering broader benefits, including open space, trail connections, and water quality improvements along Sand Creek. The project earned both an ACEC Engineering Excellence Honor Award and an Environmental Business Journal Project Merit Award.
