Pinyon Restoration Ecologist, Ashley Giles, was asked by the Clear Creek Watershed & Forest Health Partnership (CCWFHP) to be the technical advisor for a team of Colorado School of Mines Capstone Design students.  The students are completing a feasibility study of potential Clear Creek stream projects in a reach between the towns of Bakerville and Silverplume. These high priority projects are just a handful identified in a 2019 wildfire preparedness study of the watershed, the purpose of which is to find opportunities in the forest and channel to reduce catastrophic wildfire and flood risk, increase community awareness of fire-safe neighborhood strategies, and support safe and clean water supplies. One of the concepts under investigation will be the low tech, process-based enhancement of an established beaver complex! Ashley joined CCWHP leaders Diane Kielty and Kerry Major to kick off the study with the enthusiastic team of Mines engineers!
