ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING SERVICES

Radon and Indoor Air Quality Services for Living Facilities

Pinyon first started providing services to a confidential client that operates living facilities in 2016 and routinely responds to requests for environmental support services including indoor air quality, fungal spore/mold concerns, and radon services. Often, requests are short turn-around and Pinyon works with the client to expedite services.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

Pinyon has demonstrated its expertise in indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations through comprehensive assessments involving moisture intrusion, fungal contamination, and radon studies. The client has requested Pinyon’s support in response to resident concerns. Pinyon conducted targeted investigations utilizing fungal spore trap air sampling and tape lift/swab sampling to evaluate potential contamination. Detailed reports with analytical findings, field measurements, and recommendations were provided to guide future efforts.

In a series of IAQ surveys, Pinyon performed thorough visual inspections, environmental monitoring, and airborne fungal spore sampling to assess potential mold-related health risks. When an intrusive investigation was required, Pinyon coordinated efforts with facility management to access concealed areas, confirming the presence of fungal growth, and helped guide remediation efforts. Pinyon conducted post-remediation sampling and inspections to confirm successful containment and clearance.

Radon Mitigation and Testing

Pinyon provided radon testing and mitigation services for the client to address tenant concerns and indoor air quality management needs. In response to a tenant request, Pinyon conducted radon testing in a single residential unit following ANSI/AARST MA-MFLB protocols. Granular charcoal test kits were placed under closed-building conditions, and the results were documented and provided to the client for review.

For a separate project at a living facility, Pinyon designed a radon mitigation system for the new construction of a residential facility expansion. The system featured a sub-slab depressurization design with venting components to prevent radon accumulation. Pinyon conducted site visits at key construction milestones to evaluate installation and performed final indoor air radon sampling to assess system performance. A comprehensive report summarizing findings and recommendations was provided to the client.
