56th Avenue Design Build

This City and County of Denver project was located along West 56th Avenue between Peoria Street on the west to Pena Boulevard on the east.  The project built a typical five lane section and established the footprint for an ultimate six-lane configuration to be completed later.  The project also included constructing a multi-use path along the north side of 56th Avenue, including connections to the neighborhood bike lanes and the trail system at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.  The five-lane roadway widening of 56th Avenue included medians and five traffic signals.  Additionally, the project involved reconfiguring and reconstructing the existing drainage, water quality elements, structures, utilities, lighting and landscaping to meet the widening requirements and allow for future widening to six lanes. Pinyon was retained to complete numerous contractually-required environmental compliance plans as well as provide general environmental compliance and consulting throughout construction, including filling the role of the Environmental Compliance Manager.

Prior to the commencement of construction, Pinyon meticulously reviewed the available contractual documents and environmental reports to grasp the site’s challenges and project scope. Collaborating closely with the client, Ames Construction, Pinyon ensured they understood the client’s needs. Despite the complexities, Pinyon completed their tasks at approximately one-third of the total budget through efficient work management, resulting in significant cost savings for Ames Construction and ultimately for City and County of Denver.
