cultural Resources

The Pinyon Cultural Resources Team supports their clients in cultural resource compliance related to construction, maintenance, and planning projects. Pinyon’s cultural resource experts have a comprehensive background in Section 106/110 and Section 4(f) compliance. Our team is proficient in the identification and evaluation of a broad spectrum of cultural resource types, including both prehistoric and historic archaeological sites. Our team also includes several Architectural Historians that routinely evaluate structures and other built environment features such as houses, commercial buildings, railroads, irrigation ditches, historic subdivisions, large agricultural complexes and cultural landscapes. Pinyon works with our clients to identify and avoid potential adverse effects to historic resources. Should an adverse effect be unavoidable, Pinyon’s team is experienced in drafting Memoranda of Agreement and identifying and executing mitigation treatment measures. Pinyon’s experience allows us to foresee an adverse effect potential, recommend avoidance strategies, and guide our clients through the mitigation requirements and timelines, as needed.

Architectural History
The Pinyon Architectural History Team is committed to supporting the goals of our clients. Our work and preservation ethic centers on balancing historic preservation requirements with community needs. Pinyon’s team is adept at advising our clients, including best practices and risk analysis based on the local, state, and federal regulatory framework surrounding individual projects, as well as best practices and available incentives in historic preservation. Pinyon’s architectural historians each meet the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards.

Archaeological Resources
The Pinyon Archaeological Resources Team understand the complexities and challenges our clients face. We have extensive experience in a variety of landscapes recording a variety of resource types including precontact sites, mining areas, former homesteads, industrial sites, and current and historic transportation corridors. We are well equipped to review archaeological, historical, or architectural sites, structures, and places for their potential nomination eligibility to the NRHP. Our archaeologists are trained in the safe execution of excavation, survey, and construction monitoring. Pinyon’s Archaeologists includes Registered Professional Archaeologists (RPA), who exceed the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards. Our staff also includes a GIS-certified archaeologist. The Pinyon Archaeological Resources Team has expanded our permit status across the West. We are currently permitted throughout all of Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico at both the state and federal level. We’ve also confirmed that we can obtain permits in Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Montana and the Dakotas.
